84 DAYSThere is light at the end of the tunnel. I only have 84 more days left until I'm done with school. That's right folks, April 29, 2010 I will be free! How do I plan to celebrate? Maybe I'll sleep for 16 hours straight or go out for a delicious meal, but mostly I will delight myself in not having to say, "Let me check my school schedule first."Before I reach that point though, I need to complete 5 more shifts in the CICU, a 15 page paper, 2 shifts with the Nursing Supervisor, numerous pages of reading and countless web discussion board postings. Tonight I'm doing my first shift with the Nursing Supervisor. It will be interesting to spend a shift at the hospital without being on "the floor" as we call it. Another hurdle I should start "training to jump over" is that darn paper---I'm thinking of writing it about whether family members should be able to stay in the room when the patient is being "coded." Enough about school...We somehow ended up having Super Bowl Sunday off. Not sure what we'll do, but at least we can watch it in HD! Our good friend from Ontario, Angela, will be coming to visit us next week. We plan to show her a good time: a welcome dinner at a surprise location, a trip to Todai, an excursion to either Seaside/Cannon Beach area or Mt Hood, time just to chill at our house, and celebrating the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. For Opening Ceremonies so far we have Canadian Flag Drinks (layered Strawberry Margaritas/Pina Coladas), Cheezies, and we'll also find some "truly American" snacks to put on the menu. I'm excited to see her again--this time no trips to the Emergency Room though! We just barely got reimbursed for Nathan's jaunt to the ER in Toronto. You know you're a nerdy nurse, when you are excited over purchasing a new stethoscope. I'd had my old one since my CNA certification class before Nursing School. The tubing was cracking and almost severed--it looked real professional to have tape holding it together. My new toy is a Littman Cardiology III with burgundy tubing, complete with name tag. I think I'm going to use the engravable name plate. A well deserved early graduation present for me. I've bored you and procrastinated on homework long enough, Karli, RN (soon to be BSN!)
