Easily My New Favorite Movie
The Man From Earth is a movie where nothing happens. It's about a bunch of people sitting around a fire as they say goodbye to an old friend, listening to him tell a story. He claims to be 14,000 years old, and as he's done many times before he has decided it's time to move on. He doesn’t know why he’s telling them the truth when he’s never told anyone else, other than he wants to say goodbye to them as he really is. It’s a fascinating movie that explores not only how an immortal man might view the changing world, but concepts of life, death, culture and religion. I don’t want to say too much, because I’d have to get into spoilers. All I can say is if you’re interested you can watch these two video reviews by SF-Debris on the movie. The first one is spoiler free, so watch it if you’re interested, and if you just want to know what happens, watch the second one as well. This is the kind of movie where spoilers are not that big a deal. It’s mostly about the notions and ideas it brings up, and the conversation it might spark between you and your friends.
