Standard College Freshmen

Are hilarious!

Found 2 Marines (vets) in all the classes I have, and about 30 Army Vets / National Guardsmen in my classes. Fewer, Prouder. Still only female vet. Hell yea!

OK, tangent aside, the "standard" college freshmen are funny [to me] because they....

* gripe when a homework assignment takes an hour, and is due in two days.
* have to get up before 1000
* gripe when [their lack of] attendance gets them a lower grade
* get a parking ticket for parking in the staff parking areas
* complain about having 120+ menu items in the cafeteria which repeats every 60 days
* think their $500 car is "the bomb" for they paid for it out of savings
* think their high school was the best one on the planet
* see a military-style backpack and instantly walk in the opposite direction
* complain about their classes going "too fast" of a pace for "proper learning"
* don't understand why they can't turn in all assignments the week before finals
* copy homework problems from Google search results
* don't ask questions in class and miss the question on the test/quiz
* don't understand the usefulness of a syllabus
* (Introduction to Computer Programming 1 class) turn in programs that don't work
* (Trig) turn in HW that isn't attempted beyond the page header
* (Intro. to Engineering) wonder the difference between Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
* don't know why they have to actually understand what is being taught in the classroom
* write all over their car/dorm windows with glass chalk saying "future wife" or "bff" etc
* go after the same degree as their friends, but hate what the degree is
* try to text/game in class on cell phones or laptops and hope they don't get caught
* complain about having to be in class 12+hrs a week for "full-time" status
* complain about essays for scholarships
* say the exercise done walking around campus between two classes is enough for a day
* don't get a parking space next to the door
* gripe [endlessly] about a light drizzle of rain and having to walk 20 feet to their car
* eat in class for they don't have time in their schedule for 3 full meals - and the hour to eat them
* don't understand the importance of a military
* bend over like the hunchback of Notre Dam when their backpack is full
* use over-sized backpacks

Any more I missed?

You never seem that way to me. You've always got a level head and full of answers.

That's because I'm almost nearly always ready to put shit away & help out someone else - gets my mind off shit, if nothing else.

But, when I'm sitting around in an empty house with no one to talk to or look at but my own dumb reflection... Well...

We all have problems, and we all have to deal with them. We get knocked on our ass, we need to stand up and get back to work. That's the way the cosmic soap opera works. But you have to be willing to let others help carry the load sometimes. That's when you find out who your friends are, right?

So, last night, I had a couple beers with my one friend from work whom I've told all about it, and he got the chance to pay me back a bunch of the mentoring I've given him the last couple of years, and that's greatly appreciated (John, from the letter)

So, intellectually, I know it's gonna be better down the road - it's just right this instant that it seems pretty bleak. Especially when you have to go through stuff without a real support structure. But it'll get better, and hopefully, in a couple of years, I'll be in a better place. Doors are always opening and closing, and while they don't always open & close at the same time, fuck, my metaphor just croaked.

Anyway, we'll both get through our current problems, and in the end, we'll both be fine. Or dead. Both are inevitable. God keeps a certain care of those that do their best, and best I can tell, he doesn't give us more than we can actually handle. It's just up to us to learn how to handle it.

But you're tomii. Things always work out for you.

You'd like to think that, maybe... I've had my share of manure - that's how this got to be one of the prettiest flowers you've ever seen.

...

And I have my moments - my brain always runs down the road to one of the worst possible outcomes, no matter what happens. However, I usually stand right up & do my best to make the most of it.

That don't mean I don't get down-right emo every now & then, though.

...

Ain't nobody literally shootin' at me, so it ain't that bad. Sure feels like it right now, though.

And I gave 'em the bullets.

I figure I have a pretty high pain tolerance in general and in situations of extreme pain, I've always been of the mindset "this feeling sucks, but it is inevitable. bitching about it won't help. I just need to muscle through and it will be over soon." So, I'm hoping that that mentality will serve me well. Even if it doesn't and I am a complete baby about the situation, it's unavoidable at this point in time, so I still have to just deal with it. And, I am so excited to meet my little girl that I really don't think that the pain will matter for long anyway. :)

Heya. Sorry I took so long to reply. I'm doing alright, just trucking through life so far. Nothing really new to report-got a motorcycle, just have to build it. ;D

Hmm, yeah, that's about all new. Been pretty boring on my side of CONUS.

I have to agree with the others: your sights are loose/bent. I wish I could be there to inspect it for you. It'd make it easier.
