Our Little Con
This weekend was the second year for Hal-Con - our local Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Comic Convention. Last year was pretty good, but the location was a little cramped. This year, they moved to a bigger venue and they were allowed to add more to the show. I was going to go anyway, but the deal was sealed when they announced their Special Guests. Sure, they found some guy who was on some show about a bunch of kids running around killing vampires... but I'm too old for that stuff. I was born in the late 70's. When I was 5, I had only one TV show that made me want to be a Spaceman. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was my first taste of Science Fiction, and I loved every minute that my parents would let me watch. So, when I found out that I'd have a chance to meet Erin Gray - a.k.a. Colonel Wilma Deering - I was beside myself. I never thought I'd be willing to actually go to a Convention and fork over real money just to have my picture taken with someone. I guess I was wrong. The entire weekend was a blast. Since I don't live anywhere near a big convention site, I'll take what I can get. There were Q&As with the special guests, loads of authors and artists, and a great costume contest. I took lots of pictures, but have to remember that my little camera just doesn't cut it in low light. Next time, I'm bringing the "good" camera! Can't wait until next year! |
